About Me

I’m Caroline, and I’m curvy….and I’m re-discovering my love of walking and hiking, and exploring the glorious Irish countryside all around me.

I live only a hop away from the Slieve Bloom mountains, and have a fine view of Benduff from my front yard! I have always harboured a desire to go striding across the moorlands and to blag the mountain summits.Β  But thanks to thyroid issues and weight gain, I’ve rarely had the energy and I’ve never had the fitness since I’ve lived here in Ireland…but I want to change that!

I recently discovered Failte Ireland’s National Loop Walks, not all of them require mountain climbing skills…and there are countless NLWs within a half hours drive from here…so I’m planning on working through those as and when I can, and also doing other local walks as the mood takes me.

I’ll be starting slow, building up my fitness, occasionally doing something stupid (like a recent jaunt up the Devil’s Bit Mountain – which was fun, but the steep sections and unexpected scrambles were a little beyond my fitness at that time), hoping to drop a little weight off, and/or tone up a little…and building on it from there.

Come, walk with me and join me on my journey πŸ˜‰

  1. Excellent site! πŸ™‚ I’ve been traversing the Slieve Blooms now and again for the past year or so, so I’m really finding your blogs informative & helpful for the trails I have yet to explore! Thank you very much!

    • Thanks so much for your lovely comments Naoise! I’m really glad you’re enjoying my blog. The Slieve Blooms might not be as ‘sexy’ as some of the bigger mountain ranges in Ireland for hardened hillwalkers and peak-baggers, but they hold my heart and I’m loving the opportunities I get to explore them! Every trip out is a learning experience for me, on so many levels.
I had a quick look at your website, and oh wow! Your photography is stunning! Thank you for the images πŸ™‚

  2. Hi Caroline, just discovered your great blog! Recognised many of your photos! I’ve also been trekking the Slieve Bloom trails for a few years now and posted a selection on my blog http://www.walksforyou.com
Work has taken me away a lot over past months and soon again too. Enjoy the hiking, kind regards

    • Hi George
Thank you for your kind comments, and apologies for not replying sooner. I can’t wait to go and check out your website. I do really love the Slieve Blooms, they are so accessible and offer something to everyone.
I feel your pain on work taking you away from the hiking, I think my walking boots are feeling abandoned these past few months. I’m hoping to put them back to work very soon πŸ™‚ Happy hiking!
